Why I Created AfroBudgetinGirl
I was born and raised in Guadeloupe, a beautiful Caribbean island.
On the surface, my upbringing looked stable.
But behind that reality, I was witnessing something I did not understand at the time:
Financial Abuse.
My mother had access to money — but not control.
Everything required negotiation. Approval. Permission.
It took me 30 years to put a name to it.
Financial abuse is subtle.
Financial abuse is silent.
Financial abuse is destructive.
But my mother taught me one thing early:
“Always be financially independent.”
My Professional Background
I pursued financial independence through education and career.
Studied accounting and tax in France
Progressed towards Chartered Accountant level
Built a career in multinational companies
Specialised in Corporate Tax, Transfer Pricing, and Compliance
Currently a Group Tax Manager leading international tax strategy and governance
I understand money:
technically
structurally
globally
But for years, I made one mistake:
👉 I didn’t apply this knowledge to my personal life.
My Financial Reality
Despite a strong career and high income, I experienced financial hardship.
Not because I didn’t earn enough.
But because I wasn’t prepared for real-life risks.
I went through:
Failed succession planning
Financial loss due to family conflict
Multiple fraud cases
Health-related financial impact
Job loss and salary cuts during COVID
At one point, I couldn’t afford a flight home after losing my grandmother.
That moment changed everything.
What Financial Freedom Really Means
Today, I have:
Property across 3 continents
Emergency savings
Structured financial planning for myself and my children
A pension strategy
But financial freedom is not:
❌ just income
❌ just savings
❌ just investments
👉 Financial freedom is your ability to anticipate, absorb, and recover from financial shocks
The S.I.S Framework
AfroBudgetinGirl is built on the S.I.S Framework:
See – Identify – Structure
See your financial situation clearly
Identify risks and blind spots
Structure your finances for resilience
And also:
Savings – Investment – Spending Strategically
Because most people are not bad with money.
They were never taught how to see what could go wrong.
Budget With Purpose
Most budgeting advice focuses on numbers.
Cut expenses. Save more. Track everything.
But that approach misses something essential:
👉 Why you are budgeting
Budgeting without purpose leads to:
frustration
inconsistency
burnout
That’s why I teach: Budget With Purpose
A method that connects your money to:
your life realities
your risks
your responsibilities
your long-term stability
Because your budget should reflect more than income and expenses.
It should reflect your financial ecosystem:
family expectations
workplace pressure
hidden financial obligations
future life events
When your budget has purpose:
decisions become clearer
priorities become easier
resilience becomes possible
Why I Write About Financial Hardship & Financial Abuse
We talk about:
saving
investing
debt
But we rarely talk about:
control
power imbalance
fear
financial silence
And silence keeps people stuck.
I write about real-life financial experiences so you can:
recognise patterns early
feel seen
make informed decisions
From Scarcity to Legacy
My mum lived in poverty. I lived in scarcity. My children will have a legacy.
As an Accountant and Tax Professional, I understand money technically.
Through lived experience, I understand it emotionally.
AfroBudgetinGirl brings both together — to help you build stability that lasts.
You deserve clarity.
You deserve structure.
You deserve protection.
Teaching the Next Generation
That’s why I created:
How To Be a Money Smarty?
A guide to help:
children understand money calmly
parents teach money without passing down fear
My Mission
AfroBudgetinGirl exists to help you:
protect your financial foundation
understand your financial ecosystem
build long-term resilience
You deserve:
clarity
structure
protection
